I was wondering what kind of doctor you would go to for this?

My son is 3 and he has extremely flat feet no arch at all takes after me but as bad as it gets, he has been complaining lately that his knees hurt, and I know it is cause of him being so flat footed, cause it makes his knees go inward, when I was younger I had the same problem, I even had to go to a specialist to get special arch's made for my shoes to help, I just cant think of what type of specialist it was called, anyone know sooner the better, Thanks.

I was wondering what kind of doctor you would go to for this?
You can take him to a podiatrist for the arch problem, but if it is causing other problems in his legs, etc take him to an orthopedist to make sure bones, etc are not involved.
Reply:Your little one will need orthotics. It's best to ask your Doctor to refer him to this kind of specialist. Orthotics give you specially made insoles after studying posture, bone structure and gait.
Reply:I would take my child to a chiropractor, because with the joints being out of place, the pain will only increase and exacerbate the problem.

Many chiropractors can also help you get into the proper arch supports, if that is what is needed, or can help you discover if his arches just haven't developed yet (normal) or if there is another issue, such as a hip or knee displacement.

Please consider all angles before surgery! Many times therapy fixes the problem without the invasion and long term problems that internal scarring causes.

In my case, my daughter was crawling strangely, kind of twisted and with one foot aloft. The doctors wanted to do hip surgery, but I took her to a chiropractor and in 5 minutes he had her straight and crawling normally.

Reply:I would try your local podiatrist. He or she will be able to point you in the right direction, or be able to help you in the office.
Reply:A podiatrist. (foot dr)
Reply:a podiatrist or an orthopedist but you will probably have to get a referral from his pediatrician first
Reply:Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon.

My son has problem with his feet too. That's who you need to go see.
Reply:My podiatrist once told me that babies are not born with arches in their feet.. That they most kids don't even develop a very distinguished arch until they are 4 or 5. He explained to me that is why a lot of kids shoes are not made with big arches. My son had a lot of ankle, leg, and knee pain because he was severely flat footed and bow legged.. he is now 4.5 and the problem straightened itself out. If you really think it is an issue though I would have him seen by an orthopedic pediatrician.

Good luck to you both.
Reply:A podiatrist. Preferably one with experience with kids. Call up your insurance provider they should recommend one.
Reply:better take him to a podiatrist
Reply:I had the same problem and I saw an orthopedist ( don´t know if the spelling is right ) but he fixed me.
Reply:Podiatrist....and you can get a referral for him through his pediatrician.
