Is my 15 month old son "advanced" for his age?

He'll pick up his socks and wrap them around his feet trying to put them on. If someone is wearing a button-up shirt, he'll try to button it by taking the two sides of the shirt and pushing them together. He "organizes" his toys by stacking them up. If he needs his diaper changed, he'll open up the cabinet we keep diapers in. If we don't come over right away, he'll keep opening and closing the cabinet until we change him. When he's tired, he picks up his "night-time" shoes (he was born with a clubfoot and has a special brace he wears on his feet at night) and bring them over to us to put on him.

I'm not trying to say that my son is a genius or anything, but I don't really know many people with kids so it's hard for him to tell what's average behavior and what's above that. Can someone clue me in on it all? Is my son advanced? Thanks!

No doubt you'l have a dozen people on here saying that your baby is nothing special , that THEIR baby did that at 3 MONTHS old, and you think you're "super mom ect." . As a mom of a baby with special needs, I appreciate every little thing he learnes and take nothing for granted. We measure on improvement and advancement not against other kids.

As far as being advanced, only your doc can tell you.

God bless
Reply:He sounds pretty intelligent. Possibly a little anal to.lol
Reply:well he might be. i have a 15 month old daughter and shes almost to that level too.she was walking at 8 months. now when she wants a diaper change shell get me a diaper too or take hers off. when i say lets go shell get her coat and try to put it on. and she always grabs her bag too. she trys to put keys into doors.knows alot of words.everyone told me she moved too quick. but im also expecting another child and some say thats why she moved quickly but im happy. and my cousin has a baby a month older than my baby but hers is not as advanced as mines.
Reply:sorry... your son isnt advanced. if he is, it may only be by a month or two, which in baby time isn't anything at all.
Reply:I have an 18 month old that I also think is advanced, but like you, I don't really have anyone else to compare him to. Your son sounds quite bright to me. Be proud!!!!!!!
Reply:My son didn't walk til he was 13 months, wasn't potty trained til he was 3...but could add all his 2's before he was 26 mos. Go figure. Your boy sounds just fine! :)
Reply:Both of my older children have done the same thing. I'm sure my 3rd will too. Perfectly normal. It sounds like he's a healthy, smart little boy. He's hitting all of his milestones just fine.
Reply:It is so nice that you are with out a doubt a proud parent. We all have genius advanced children, then they become teenagers and everything levels out. =)
Reply:Sounds like a normal 15 month old...sorry.
Reply:My son pretty much does the samething. If you want to know where your son should be I know at my doctors office they have little lists of different ages like thiings they should be doing. I know at that age they should be able to stack blocks, say a few words, go get things that you ask for like shoes, cup and stuff. Its really helpful having that little sheet and knowing
Reply:you son sounds like he is developing at a normal healty rate
Reply:he would appear to be a normal child to me. Every child has something special about them and something that sets him/her apart from every other child but i wouldn't say your child is advanced i'm sure there are tons of kids that are your sons age and can do the same things, no offense.
Reply:my 14 month old does all those things except the one with the braces.

its cute cause she tries to put on her socks and her shoes

your son sounds cute.
Reply:He sounds normal. Cute though :-)

This morning I told my son (also 15 months LOL) that I had to go potty. He took me by the hand, led me to the bathroom and opened the lid LOL I drew the line when he tried to pull down my pants. Then he tried to stick his hand in the toilet... When he pulls things out of his "oven" on his play kitchen, he put on his oven mitt first. Odd, since he tries to touch the real oven bare handed, but I digress.

Anyway, it's all normal. If he wasn't doing that stuff, it would be normal too.
