What is wrong with my Bird nest?

I was told, that until the nest is not a good one, the female budgie will not lay eggs. I tried different kinds of nests bought at the pet store, but I feel my female budgie avoids them, it's like they don't exist for her. These days I found a new kind of special plastic box, like a shoe box, (with an opening small window), specially designed for breeding. I also doubt about it.

I need some advice: is it possible to create a nest in the cage? or should it be out of the cage?

It sounds like you have not done your research on breeding, no offence, but hookbills, (parrots and budgies), lay eggs in nest boxes.

You will need two inches of pine shavings or carefresh bedding in the bottom of the nest box, they DO NOT need anything else to nest with.

Make sure your bird is on a good breeding diet of pellets, fresh foods and very little seed. Also, make sure your bird has pleanty of calcium in their diet.
Reply:Some birds prefer privacy when they mate or lay eggs. I had a bird once who would not lay eggs untill I put her nest in a concealed bucket attached to the cage. I would suggest you try to give your bird a closed area to lay her eggs, maybe try putting a towel over half of the cage or have a seperate cage that has a towel over it with a nest in it connected to your birds cage for her to lay her eggs. I hope this helps you :)
Reply:try to let her make her own nest.
Reply:in Mexico where I live , they sell a large piece of bamboo with both ends covered with tin , on the side is a partially drilled hole , when the budgies are ready they finish cutting the hole , and lay there eggs , they use it all the time now , their cage hangs in the lemon tree
