Military kids and Families!?

*NOTE: this program is under construction and at this present time is not a for sure thing of the future.

The outline of the project is this:

because of the war and the amounts of military personnel being deployed or are away from home, military children are missing out on having a parent. The focus would be on high school seniors (for now) since you can't really do over the memories. At the last school event (sporting, plays...etc) parents normally escort their child or are there for support. The goal is to plan for a "celebrity" (sports player...etc) escort the child and stay as support in place of the absent parent. The program would not be to sugest that anyone could fill in the shoes of a parent, but to make the event special.

The program would be voluntary... and called "stand in for mom or dad"

What are your thoughts of the overall program? Likes? Dislikes?

Do you like the name?

What other kinds of celebrities should be contacted other then sport players?

Military kids and Families!?
I think it's nice idea but how big of a program is this? Is it for one particular area? For all the seniors with deployed parents in the US? Would it be for kids who had only one parent? (I think if one parent were deployed the other parent would want to stand in) Scheduling celebs to participate would be a huge undertaking. Being in the military I missed out on a lot of things in my daughter's life. I'm lucky that I recently retired so I will not miss her highschool graduation. But when I did miss things like school plays or sporting events, my family and friends were always there for her, giving her standing ovations and yelling her name so she would know she was loved. Not every child is that lucky.
Reply:that is a great idea. i know the kids would love it and would make them feels special when their parent/s arent able to be with them on a night were everyone elses parents are there. i wonder though if it would be akward for others there to have a special night be turned into a publicity stunt for some star. i think the program has potential but also has a few bugs.
Reply:I don't think it necessarily has to be a "celebrity". I think it would be a nice gesture to have other service men/women/retired from the same unit to step in and "take care of each others family".
Reply:Sounds great! I hope it can be rolled out to more than just the high schoolers.. even the younger ones are missing out too.
