can anyone recommend a good brand (preferably in the range of $50-$60) or give me tips on how to ensure a good fit, etc?
I don't have a special running store in my area, so I'm not counting on the salesperson being that informed. I just have general sports stores around me.
Thanks!
I'm buying new running shoes today...?
Well, better skip the $50-60 range to find good running shoes. $70 is the starting point.
Sorry, but the better shoes are usually between $75-95 range. Anything over $100 is not worth it as you are only getting over-design junk that will not improve the preformance. (You are only giving companies more money....)
For a woman, I usuallu recommend Saucony, follow by Asics, Mizuno, Brooks, and then adidas.
If you go to a couple web sites for running shoes, you can see what they recommend and usually they have last year's model on sale for a good price break.
Try on shoes at yoru local sporting goods store. Granted all shoes fit differently, but this will be your starting point. Make sure to give your self 3/4-to-1 thumb width between yoru longest toe and the front of the shoe.
Sorry to say, but the only way to find the shoe for you is to try them out.
:)
Reply:Another web site to check is www.eastbay.com. They will have information on the specific benefit of certain shoes. They also have a clearance section called Final Score.
If you cannot get a sale price, you may want to plan on $70+ to get something that will do what you need.
Asics should be a decent shoe for a decent price. New Balance is a step above that and so is adidas. Personally, I am a Nike guy.
Reply:Asics are great running shoes. They are comfortable, durable, stable, and highly cushioned. Nike and Adidas are also nice but Asics are probibly your best choice. Good Luck.
Reply:Queenie, no one can accurately tell what shoe is best for you until you examine your own feet and decide what kind of foot you have. And since you don't say how often or how far you run, it's doubly hard to give you advice.
Likewise, you should never buy running shoes based on looks, and don't be fooled about gettting QUALITY shoes for under $100. I've bought top-of-the-line shoes for $125 10 years ago, so any advice telling you to go cheap is cheap advice. Not that good shoes don't exist for less. My last ones I got at Academy for $40, but I don't run mileage any more either.
I suggest you get to a runner's store or "Good Feet" store that specializes in foot care and foot wear. If you really have none available then look for a good brand like Saucony or Asics, get the ones with lots of cushion. ALWAYS try them on and make sure you have AT LEAST the width of your thumb between your longest toe and the front of the shoe while standing with weight on that foot. The more you run the more you'll learn about feet and shoes, otherwise, you'll wind up injured and quit the sport.
Good Luck
Reply:I run solely in Brooks. But shoe choice is very individual. I recommend going to the Brooks website. They have a section called "Shoe Advisor" where you can research what kind of shoe might be best for your feet based on your running style. You can then take that info and use it for any brand you might choose. Most running shoes will be categorized as either neutral, cushion, or stability. Once you figure out what kind you need, you can purchase that style from any company! Then it's personal preference. If you're going to run seriously, I would NOT skimp on the shoes. It's worth the money to keep yourself healthy. $80 to 100 should do it. Also check the online companies such as Road Runner Sports, and National Running Center, once you've tried shoes on in a store. They have good sales frequently.
Hope that helps! Happy running!
