Hello!
We are working on fitting our old barn with new stalls, mats, etc. for our horse. The floors are concrete. My horse has had problems with his feet... some laminitis that has required special shoeing and management to keep him sound and comfortable.
I'm looking for suggestions on stall mats. I see several different brands, and have experience with plain, heavy, rubber mats. But, I thought if there was something out there that someone had used before, that was a little more "cushy", and had had a good experience with it, I should check it out.
I want to give him a nice soft place to rest when he's inside.
Thanks for your suggestions!
Best stall mats for a horse with hoof problems (laminitis)?
Hi, the best beeding you can have for lamintics is rubber matting and a thick bed of wood shavings - they ball up in the horses' feet to provide support, you have to use bedding on top of any matting you get in the UK anyway.
There is a product you can buy that is a liquid rubber, you pour it over the clean concrete flooring and leave it to set, then when it is dry, you have a rubber floor - much better than matts because your bedding and mess do not get trapped in the joins! Hope this helped!
Reply:Hi, Stable Comfort stall mats (actually mattresses) are very good and therapeutic for all horses. The mattress under the wall-to-wall top cover allows better circulation in the horses hooves creating less fluid accumulation, %26amp; less stress on the legs, knees, and joints. I am sure the increased circulation in the hooves will greatly improve your horses feet problems. We just put these in all of our stall and love it! It allows them to rest more, and improves their overall general health.
