Did your elementary school have any special incentives & punishments in addition to detentions & suspensions?

%26amp; the ordinary good rewards?

I used to go to McDonough 26 Elementary in Gretna (New Orleans Westbank), %26amp; the mascot was DRAGON.

If you were good, you got a gold slip or Dragon Dollars, %26amp; Fun Friday where you can buy candy for a quarter.

If you were bad, you got suspension, detention, referral, behavior reports, etc. %26amp; also you had to write the Broken Dragon Promise 10 times as a punishment [while the goody 2 shoes got to have "NO Broken Promise" activities, like Halloween %26amp; Easter Bazaar festivals with merry-go-rounds (carousels), field day where you compete in athletic competitions, have water gun %26amp; water balloon fights, sock hops, etc.] %26amp; you got a Blue slip.

%26amp; every Friday was Spirit Day where you wear the New Orleans Saints colors-Black %26amp; Gold.

No, there were no special rewards at my school, only punishments. If you "misbehaved," you were usually hit with a wooden board; sometimes you were kicked, slapped, had your hair pulled, or held down and your mouth washed out with soap.

One of the more memorable punishments was when a classmate became upset and cried; the teacher put him in the center of the classroom with a hat that read "crybaby" and had the other students point and repeat "crybaby" over and over. When he wouldn't stop crying, he got the wooden board for "disrupting the class."

I guess school has changed since I was a kid.
Reply:Well, Im not going to a elementry school.

Thats a strange school...
Reply:We didn't have incentives when I went to elementary school. Incentives didn't come until later - years later.
Reply:lol we were home of the bobcats we got these paw stars. lol
Reply:The school I went to was so tough, that whoever was still "it" when the bell rang to end recess, got executed in the parking lot. Eventually I was the only kid in my class.

Reply:Hey Former Dragon. My elementary school Colonial Drive (Cougars) had this "Lucky Buck" System. It was to teach us how to manage money and used as an reward incentive for good behavior. We had the opportunity to spend the bucks at the school store. It was actually cool. We had a savings book and a check book. We also had Field Day periodically, normally on a Friday. Spirit Day didn't come about until we entered the Middle School arena. Don't really remember the punishment penalties back then.

Reply:We had a pizza program sponsored by pizza hut that gave us one free personal pan pizza for every 20? books we read. We also had lunch with our teacher on friday in the classroom, and we were allowed to watch tv during lunch that day if we had been good all week. If we hadn't , we had to eat in the cafeteria. There was paddling my first year of kindergarten (1990), but by 1991 or 92 that was no longer allowed. We also had a ticket system where we would earn tickets for correct answers in class, and those tickets could be cashed in for small prizes like pencils or folders.
