What should a pointe dancer do if they have bunions?

I have very, very, very bad bunions. I also dance on pointe...those two things DO NOT mix. :/

Ever since I started dancing on pointe, I have had troubles and I can't stand on my box properly. I don't want to just give up trying (which I am very close to doing) because I worked so hard to get on pointe but it's so hard for me. One of my teachers was talking about these special pointe shoes that are shaped different for bunions. Does anyone know what she was talking about? Or does anyone have any suggestions about maybe some padding or techniques I could use? As soon as I have money and time I am going to get surgery but until then I would like to work with what I got.

The surgery is so awful I had it 2 years ago, and I still have so much pain on the incision sites. And the pins are painful too. So I feel for you. I almost wish I wouldn't have gotten the surgery because I cannot walk in heels anymore. I got both feet done and now if even something light falls on my foot it hurts so bad! Good luck on making your decision, nobody ever told me about the pain!
Reply:I think there are these gel things you can put over your bunions.. I have pretty bad bunions too, but they dont' hurt as much.

You cold also try putting a LITTLE bit of water on your pointe shoes to help them mold to your feet better.. that will probably help the pain.
Reply:have you tried wrapping them really tight with toe tape, or bunheads makes these little pads that you can stick over blisters and bunions they're like a gel material
Reply:bunheads makes pads called "bunion busters" that apparently work really well. My friend has the worst bunions ever and she uses those. She said they work really well.
